Portugal 2005 Issue - Eruopa Gastronomy with recipe

One stamp sheet series I find unique and interesting is the Gastronomy series from Portugal issued by CTTO. The stamps sheet of fish and octopus feature three delicacies for you to try; Scabbard Fish Fillet, Baked Dried COD with Backed Potatoes and Stewed Octopus. On the right corner is the procedures on how to cook them. I have not tried yet the recipe but from the looks of it they look oh so good!

Scabbard fish is a very healthy and lean blue fish, rich in proteins and Omega 3 fatty acids. The taste of its meat is really good, so much that in Messina has been renamed “signurina du mari” (miss of the sea) for its tasty and delicate flesh. The meat is firm, white with pink shades. With few thorns easily removed, it has a delicate and very neutral flavor; perfect breaded and fried.

Cod is both a nutritious and flavorful fish loaded with lean protein, vitamins, and minerals. Although lower in omega-3s than fatty fish, cod can still be part of a healthy diet. Cod contains less mercury than some seafood, including popular fish like tuna, and can be prepared in multiple ways.

Octopus is also a culinary delicacy in coastal areas of the world. It’s a beloved food of many people in Asia-Pacific countries like Japan and the Koreas as well as in the Mediterranean, such as Italy and Spain.
